White Moment, 2009

This video began as a twenty minute loop for an installation by the same name at Northeastern Illinois University Art Gallery in 2008, but I wanted to create a screening version. The ever talented Mr. Michael Una animated the piece with brilliant sound. The original filming day could not have been without the camera, lights and tub of Tesia Kosmalski.

"White Moment" is a term synonymous with insight or flow. It is the a-ha moment. In this video, a meditative state is explored as the foundation for the white moment. Within this meditative state is the element of self reflection found within.

The piece was also inspired by my sculptural piece included in the installation. "Breathe" from 2008 is a linear installation piece in which a series mouths and noses ascend and descend into the surface of the wall. Within the opening of each mouth is a mirror.

Created at The Experimental Television Center

This video collaboration was created by Mary Ann Wincorkowski and Renee Prisble Una at The Experimental Television Center in Owego NY in 2002. This work explores the relationship between the body and place and was filmed in the ETC, which is housed in a building over 100 years old. The writing on the walls are early 20th century misspelled graffiti, which the actor, Emily Fitzgibbons, transposes onto her body and ultimately consumes at the end of the piece. We loved making the piece and hope you enjoy it too.

Impressions, 2001

documentation of installation

This video documents an installation I exhibited at Alfred University's School of Art and Design's John Wood's Studio in 2001. The work involved an interactive flash piece exhibited on a large touch screen, and three video monitors showing the impressions on my skin fading at different speeds. On the touch screen, the viewer could touch different parts of my skin, which had been photographed after creating custom map-like impressions. By touching different parts, the viewer would activate different sounds.

I used sound from Wim Wenders' movie Wings of Desire for this short playful and sentimental video. I love his movie, especially this series of monologues that are spread out throughout the film. The images and other sounds are from a broken music box I had, which I glued small South American fiber figurines to. The image cycles around to emphasize the cyclical nature of the monologue.

This grainy video uses the texture of the medium as a metaphor of memory. Briefly there are two clips from The High Plains Drifter.
