January workshops
posted in: Shows by Michael Una on January 07, 2009Good morning, you radiant jewels of humanity.
I’m writing to let you know about a few workshops I have coming up which you may
enjoy immensely:
When: Sunday, January 18th from 4-7pm
Where: Mini Dutch Gallery, 3111 w. Diversey, Chicago IL 60647
What: Come on by and make some LED Throwies with Andrew Mueller and Michael Una. As part of Mini Dutch’s current show Prototype, participants will learn to create an electronic installation artwork of their own. LED throwies were invented by NYC’s Graffiti Research Labs, who describe them thusly:
LED Throwies are an inexpensive way to add color
to any ferromagnetic surface in your neighborhood. A Throwie consists of a
lithium battery, a 10mm diffused LED and a rare-earth magnet taped together.
Throw it up high and in quantity to impress your friends and city
officials.
More info can be found here.
When: Sunday, January 25th from 9am to 4pm
Where: Columbia College Chicago, room TBA (email me if you’re interested and I’ll update you)
What: I’ll be conducting a workshop called Video Circuit Bending: Building Optical Theremins.
As part of Motion Graphics Festival Chicago, I’ll be teaching people how to build a version of Beep-it. Each attendee will assemble their own square wave synthesizer, capable of making gesturally controlled 8-bit-esque music and analog video noise. The class will then experiment with using different light sources to create variable sounds and high-frequency signals which can be displayed on a television monitor.
More info can be found here.
I hope to see you all there.
